Obtained directly from Mr. Benning . Damon Benning, 1996 Orange Bowl MVP and local radio personality, played during an era in which some of the greatest I-Backs in Nebraska Cornhuskers history played. Lawrence Phillips, Ahman Green, Clinton Childs, Jay Sims, and Damon Benning all fought for carries during the mid to late 90’s.
Damon rushed 270 times for 1562 yards and 20 TD’s during his career at NU from 1993-96. He also contributed on special teams, returning punts and kickoffs. After an injury to Ahman Green late in the season, Benning took advantage and won the 1996 Orange Bowl MVP award. He has since become popular on radio with the “Benning Breakdown” before becoming a permanent member of an Omaha morning sports talk show. Listening to his insight and knowledge of Huskers sports has become a daily routine for thousands of Huskers fans.
